Cement – Clay Synthesis of Transport Across the Cement-Clay Interface

pdf NAB 22-34 Cement – Clay Synthesis of Transport Across the Cement-Clay Interface(18.41 MB)

This report provides a state-of-the-art review of the current experimental and theoretical knowledge about cement/clay interaction. Chapter 2 provides the structural summary and overview of the cement/clay interaction processes and their relevance for the performance of the multi-barrier repository design and the repository in situ conditions. Chapter 3 provides a review of the experimental findings in the studies of cement/clay interactions, which are conducted at laboratory and field scales. Chapter 4 reviews the state of the art of numerical modelling techniques, and the concepts applied to model the experimental observations and to evaluate the expected long-term evolution of the interface zone, beyond the experimentally accessible timescale. Finally, the most important conclusions about the evolution of the cement-clay interface are summarized in Chapter 5.
